Come Fly With Me!!!!

Throwback Thursday, when I witnessed/participated one of the craziest thing EVER!!! St. Maarten is a beautiful island in the Caribbean... But they also have this unique opportunity for vacationers to experience something that can never be done anywhere else; encounter incoming and outgoing aircraft/airplanes close by... Princess Juliana International Airport sits at the edge of Sunset Beach in the island of St. Maarten... Its runway is several yards from the ocean... Incoming flights (top right photo) gives you an up-close-and-personal view of airplanes about to touch down... IT'S REALLY THAT CLOSE!!! For outgoing flights (bottom right photo), thrill seekers can hang on to the fence and wait for the planes to take off from the runway (about 150 yards away)... Once the airplane is ready for takeoff, a blast of high heat coming from the engines hit the crowd with ferocious abandonment... As you can see from the embedded sign, IT'S DANGEROUS!!! Hehehehe... To the left of the collage is the daily schedule of planes arriving/leaving the airport... Such a KUH-RAY-ZEE experience!!! A definite check-mark on my bucket list!!! All images captured on my 1Ds3 + 16-35L II + Lee 105mm CPL Filter...

:)

Just being curious. In which ways do you think the 1Ds3 will be better than 1DX?

I love mine by the way.

Coming from a 1Ds3 user for many years (and now using a 1DX), here's my opinion on where the 1Ds3 is better than a 1DX... NONE, really... Maybe ISO performance under 400, is relatively the same... But other than that, the 1DX is superior than the 1Ds3...

Yes. That was my assumption. I asked because optizz contemplated getting a 1DsIII when he/she already had a 1DX as well as a bunch of other bodies.

I owned the 1Dx and now the 1dx2. I also own the 1dsIII and I think comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Two very different cameras in different shooting situations. I use my 1Ds III for macro work and landscapes. I also use it as a general walk-around camera.

I find the color rendition better on the 1Ds III than the 1Dx. Because I use the 1Ds III for macros, the variety of interchangeable focus screens is much better for the 1Ds III. I also use Zeiss lenses for macro and landscape shots where the focus screens are invaluable.

While th 1Dx is a great camera and does many things very well, my 1Ds III does other things better. The two bodies are not interchangeable.

My comments are from my experiences using both bodies and my opinion.....YMMV.

Yo Butchieee! YOU, are one of the many, many reasons I own this beast of a beast. I haven't seen any images of
any perfect empty barrels in this thread, (yet) but this one ^ caught my eye.

I recently got the 16-35L and have just been playing with it mostly. But the 200 2.8L arrived recently
and I haven't had the time yet, but I'm planning a session soon with a *muse* just for fun ...

Loving this camera to bits! :-D

A quick shot of my new Vans ..

Does Canon support service for this body?

I had some bad luck while shooting an old Roman aqueduct and a naumachia (gladiator naval battle basin).

It's my understanding that Canon will service the 1D IV and 1Ds III up to 7 years after the 1Dx started shipping.

Managed to get a day or so out in Suzhou, Jiangsu District, China on a recent work trip. All taken with 16-35/4.

More to come, when I get some more time to edit them.
