So the reality is that there are very few FD lenses worth keeping and using and for those that want to maintain FD lens usability, the adapter is a scant $6US for a cheap one and $30 for a really fancy one. I think I prefer the new mount with full AF capability and needing a cheap $6 adapter if I ever get the hankering to used some of my old FD lenses.
Here is a shot taken of my son with my vintage Nikon 200 f2 ai-s which was on my Nikon D2h body.

And lest I forget, there is also a Nikon TC16-A which does give the older manual focusing lenses such as my 200 f2 ai-s limited auto focusing abilities with bodies that support it. Not one of my best pics taken with it but you can see that it still can produce a sharp image. I don't believe Canon ever made such an adapter available for its users. Just another advantage, albeit a small one if you shoot Nikon.

For the record, until a few years ago I was a Canon shooter. What prompted my switching over to Nikon was a need to sell all my Canon gear to help one of my kids with their college tuition. After I decided to start shooting again I tried out the Canon 5DMIII and the Nikon D800 before investing in one or the others lenses. In short I was so impressed with the Sony sensor I went with the Nikon and more or less the same lineup of gear I had when shooting Canon. If Canon had as good sensors in their bodies as the Nikon/Sony pairing I would have likely stayed in the Canon camp. But I have truly grown to love that 36mp Sony sensor over everything else.
