This was my first opportunity to shoot prop planes. And subsequently first attempt at prop blur. I remembered reading a tip somewhere about 1/125 so I used that as a starting point. Was hard to tell on the back of my camera what the shots would look like. I couldn't see the blur, so really looked to me like it was blurred to the point it disappeared. I tried various shutter speeds from 1/125 and down. This was one of my better shots. Sadly the panning shots when it took off weren't sharp enough for my liking. I need to practice panning more, obviously!

Great shot, sadly not able to make Geneseo this year, shame I'd would love to see Randy Ball's performance!

Talking about prop blur... I was checking out the Canon refurbished page for the 7D Mark II (what I would like to get, eventually), and guess what I saw there: one of the camera's signature marketing photos prominently featured a prop plane, head-on, with its propeller... frozen as ice:

I guess, they have a different preference on that subject.

I was there all weekend, but that picture was taken Saturday. I only remember because this was the only time I tried out the 100-400II with the 1.4XIII. Sunday was definitely the best day of the weekend.

How was AF performance and IQ with the 1.4xIII ?

I was pleased with the IQ, with this photo being a good example. I would say the IQ is consistent with my old 100-400 mk1. The AF only works on center-point at F/8 or higher. It was a bit slower, but not an issue at all for airshows.
