It sure looks to me like a male red-winged blackbird. Very common in Calif., or used to be.

Yes, male red winged blackbird. Very common here in Florida....still......

Also very common in Indiana as well :-)

Thanks. I got about 12 or so in this series, it was tough to pick a favorite. It is cropped about 75%. The 6D/Tamron 150-600 combo yet again.

600mm ISO 400 f7.1 1/1600 sec ( I was set up for flight shots at the time).

Peter I've started keeping almost knee high rubber boots in the car for just in case. Used them in Iceland,
well to be honest wore them daily everywhere there. Often had these on the rubber boots-

I don't know if you need traction aids where you are?

Wow never seen that before, I might need it during winter. Thanks Robert.

Just stay off the frozen side walks and payment. I've seen more people wipeout before they get to the ice.

An older image of one of the more tolerant Red-tailed Hawks I've come across in my travels. I photographed this hawk for a good 6+ months at a local botanical garden and he actually let another photographer sit next to him on a bench in one of the gardens...he could care less she walked up (slowly) and sat down next to him. Amazing for a totally wild raptor....

Thanks. This was taken with a 500mm lens but I was photographing it eat a Squirrel on the ground using a 70-200mm lens fairly close. Normally I would give wildlife a wide berth in situations like this but this hawk could care less someone was near it.
