Records are making a comeback. One of my grandkids got a record player and a couple of albums last Christmas.

Speaking of records, it's 115 here on the east side of the valley. Still not a record.

G'night, Ian.

I can't tell the difference between vinyl, cd's, mp3's and all the other file types out there. To me, it sounds the same. The upside is, it lessens my disappointment in sound quality. As a teen, I had a Pioneer System, and headphones so I wouldn't bother anyone else.

I haven't seen a record in ages. I still have a box of them in the attic though.

They're probably warped, then.

Which means they'd fit right in!

CD quality can be questionable in some cases because it is only as good as the original it came from... so my dad's Big Band CDs sometimes sound scratchy, for example.

Then mp3's - again depends on quality of the original - but also the bitrate... a whole generation grew up on mp3 128 bits (... yuck) due mainly to space concerns. My mp3's are at least 256 or sometimes 320 bit and hard-disk space is cheap now - so you get all the intended sound. Mp3 is still compressed though, like a jpeg. I prefer to buy iTunes digital music but whatever.

I'm a Spotify fan. But to be honest, I really don't know about bitrates and such. I'll have to look into iTunes, since I'm pretty much an Apple guy. See if I can tell the difference. I have Bose headphones. Got those after comparing them to Beats. Seemed like Bose pretty much won out on sound quality for me.

I have good computer speakers but I could use a mediocre sound-card in my computer - which is my primary music player. Should give a noticeable improvements but also - if I play streaming video AND use Lightroom - the sound gets choppy. A dedicated sound card should fix that.

For my Own 1st album i got Nazareth "Hair of the dog" when I joined Columbia House. I think I only bought 2 more albums before I quit.

Here it is for your listening enjoyment. A gift to my 40,000 post.

My first LP was Steppenwolf Monster, 1969. I think my second was Led Zeppelin's first album; I was hooked after that one.

Congrats on your 40k Chet!

Nazareth, Steppenwolf. Those were never in my library. I was more Elton John, 3 Dog Night, Creedance Clearwater Reivival, the softer side of rock I guess. Not Barry Manilow soft, but you get the idea. ( I hope)
