DionM Senior Member More info Post edited over 6 years ago by DionM. | Jul 25, 2016 05:57 | #4150 Even though I bought this lens a little while ago, I typically always grab my 600/4 or 400/5.6 when I am birding. I either need all the reach I can get my hands on, or I want a lens that won't zoom creep (probably the only thing I don't like about the 100-400).

If you turn the tension ring all the way tight it should not zoom creep. Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

True but it is then hard to zoom. It's okay, I don't mind it, but when I want to work with a body and lens hanging off my shoulder as a second setup, I find a prime best for that.

It does loosen up very slightly and this makes a difference. If you then place the tightening ring almost at fully tight there is a spot that makes it work perfectly. Hockey and wedding photographer.
