Moving up to a 500mm, so it's time to say bye bye to my baby. I've had this lens for 6 years and have taken some great pictures with it.
So... I am selling my very sharp Canon 400mm prime f/5.6L lens. As you probably know already, it's lightweight and great for walking around shooting birds, other wildlife, sports, astrophotography, etc. The lens is very solidly built and is weather-sealed. It has a built-in retractable lens hood.
CONUS buyers only, $800 and I will pay for Priority shipping. (If you are in the Baltimore/DC/Annapolis area and prefer local pickup, I will take $25 off the price and will give you a chance to try out the lens first. Just bring your own DSLR.) Not interested in any trades unless you have a 500mm f/4.5, in which case let me know how much cash you'd want added to the deal.
I really have babied this lens. There are one or two cosmetic scratches on the outside housing of the lens (see pic), but the glass (which is what matters) is terrific, and the images are razor sharp. (See samples; I have many more I can share with all exif data intact.) Handheld, wide open at 5.6, this lens outperforms the 100-400 IS in every single test I've ever tried.
I'd give the glass 8.5/10, maybe 9. The front element is, to my eyes, like new; there are two tiny specks on the inside element, as one might expect for a lens of this age (UW date code), but they have no effect on image quality.
Many more pictures of and through the lens are available on request. Tell me what you want a picture of and I'll send it!
Includes original caps and case/pouch. I will also throw in the tripod ring.
