Unfortunately half of all dogs over 10 get cancer, I have had 3 dogs get cancer over the last 5 or so years. One of my dogs had two tumors removed a few years ago and now he about 16 years old.
Dogs get a raw deal in life with such short lifespans, they do so much for us and ask so little in return.

So true, unfortunately

Aye. You can look at god in dog's light - be angry at god for making their lives so short, or praise god because you can have several wonderful dogs in your own (hopefully!) lengthy lifespan.

Just wanted to pass along my thanks for all the kind words and sympathy. Fenris was special. I can't believe he's gone.

this is so true, more animals are dying of diseases now than ever before,i read that its the crappy ingredients in the kibble dog food,i am a firm believer if a dog will eat people food they should. we had a bulldog that loved her fresh veggies in her bowl and she lived to be over 13 pretty good for a bully

I don't know if dogs are living shorter lives or not, My 120 pound Malamute lived 3 months short of her 15th birthday, she died from cancer. My Shepherd/Lab mix had cancerous tumors removed a few years back in two surgeries about a year apart and he is either a little over or under 16, I don't know his exact age but I figure he was about 6 months old when I got him.

We had another dog who got cancer at around 7 years old and died a little short of two years later after some very expensive chemotherapy, she was in remission and we thought she was going to be OK but it came back even though she was still undergoing treatment. That death really hit us hard, even the vet was crying.

I shaved my dog yesterday. Her coat was out of control and needed a fresh start. Here she is earlier today.. still not used to the hair off her ears.
