Hi everyone,

Quick question, for anyone so kind as to answer... I'm looking to get a crop body to go alongside my 5D3.
I'm torn between this and the 7D2,but like the sound of the better sensor on this model.

How is everyone finding the AF tracking reliability in servo mode; with regards to sports and birds etc.?
As that's the only concern I have if I opt for this instead of the 7D.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Learning. Slowly,but surely...

I initially bought an 80D but exchanged it for a 7D2 after a week of use. From my short period of testing, I was not satisfied with the number of keepers or quality of the pics from using the servo mode. I love the flip LCD though but sad to say wildlife pics is what I am really after. Others may have different experience than mine.

How would you say iso compares 80d with 7dmkii? I like the iso performance of the 7d2

I had not a chance to look at more in detail the high ISO capability of 80D. I rarely shoot using high ISO. I have a 6D, even then I still try to limit my low light shot. Always using a tripod. My max is probably around 1600. So many analysis you can find in the web for 80D ISO performance.

Overall, I'm really glad I made the switch. I got the 7d2 body at a good price too. $250 less than the current selling price :-). So happy BB price match a 3rd party seller at amazon.

I've read that the 80d has capable servo abilities. I'm not a big bif shooter. I do it occasionally and have had good results even with a 60d and rebel. I'm aire these 7diis are really good, but I fond it hard to believe that the 80d is not any good at all.

I'm sure it is a good all-purpose camera and also depends on what you are more leaning on using it. Although it has a good 7fps, wait till you try 7d2 10 fps. I already saw what an extra 3fps will capture not only for fast moving birds but the perfect moment that you are looking to capture for other wildlife as well.

Id be stepping up from 3fps. When i rented the 7dii i only used 6fps anyway. So 7 would be perfect for me. Tracking through viewfinder is less accurate than using liveview. Even on the 7d2. At least from what ive read. I dont shoot most things unless im using the view finder

Coming from a 7D original I really like my 80D with one exception.

It takes my 80D a lot longer than my 7D to clear the buffer. I'm a big time chimper. I like to look at the image right after I take it. I've found the 80D to be painfully slow after a burst of 5 frames or so.

Other than that, I love the camera.

At some point, I'll do a side by side comparison with the two cameras so that I can give exact results.

I'm sure the 7D mkII would be much better in this area.
