More travel with the 50L last week! I find a 50 prime is perfect for walking around by myself for shots like these (i.e. just for my own enjoyment.) Then when I'm out with friends or family, I'll bring a 24 prime for people and environment shots. Besides trips where I know I'll have time for dedicated landscape shooting (for which I'd bring the 16-35IS,) the 50/24 combo has finally become my solid go-to full-frame travel kit.

That's awesome. After my recent Alaska cruise and flipping constantly between cameras and lenses, I want to travel simple.

Thanks! I've been through several different kits and really think the pair of primes is what I'm most comfortable with for the majority of the travelling I get to do. That said, there are obviously situations where a zoom kit with both a wide option (16-35 on a ff) and a long option (70-300L or 100-400 on a crop) would be best – an Alaska cruise I was on a year or so ago was actually a perfect example of where I used a zoom kit and would have been really limited with the primes, haha. Of course, that's all based on the fact that any photography I'm doing during travel is only for myself, so the limitations of the primes don't really matter compared to the enjoyment of a simple kit.

Yeah. Alaska is a poor example because I mostly used my 24-105 along with a rented 100-400 and a rented 14mm prime.

Sorry for the side track. I don't even own a 50L. It's on my watch list. I have the 35L, 85L and 135L already. I'm a prime-a-holic. :)

I've had my 50L for about eight years and tbh it was rarely used. Since buying a 6D body last year its now my go to lens, albeit reluctantly at first, but I'm finding I enjoy the challenge of only packing one lens on a day out. Need wider? Stitch or move back. Longer? Crop or move forward. Cant get the shot? Work around it. I'm really enjoying the results and thinking a lot more before pressing the shutter.:-)
