Hey guys. I am thinking of swapping my Fuji X-E1 for the SL1 as my lightweight travel camera. Question is, what is the highest 'useable' ISO the SL1 can pump out?

I previously owned a T4i and remember 1600 being the max, and even that wasnt too pretty. My X-E1 looks pretty good at 3200 and bearable at 6400, problem is its autofocus.

I feel like if I switch the fuji for the canon, I will be upset that its low light performance is too poor, but its AF will be much better.

I had an SL1. I guess useable ISO is different for everyone, but I'd say I was comfortable up to 3200 for almost all applications, and 6400 was ok in a pinch too. ETTR was the key, I think DR is not a strong suit of that generation of APS-C sensors, so trying to pull up exposure at high ISOs was fairly destructive.

I have a Fuji X-T10, I'd say ISO is 1 stop better than the SL1. Now there's stuff on the internet about Fuji cheating on high ISOs. I personally found that even if you assume that's true and that say Fuji's ISO 3200 = Canon's 1600, I'd still give the slight edge to Fuji due to better handling of chroma noise.

Overall I was very happy with the SL1, thought it was a terrific small camera. But I have to say that if you want to stay with Fuji, you are using the wrong body to evaluate AF speed. The newer bodies are greatly improved. Basically night and day.

Agreed. Some people think ISO 640 and up are useless on the SL1, some people feel ISO 3200 is completely useable. For me, I have taken it to 6400 and didn't worry much. I found ISO 6400 JPEGS surprisingly good. There is some nice pixie dust Canon uses for JPEGS on the SL1 that I was impressed with. I'd shoot RAW 6400 understanding exposure was more critical and some noise work would need to be done. Overall, I'd agree that 3200 was something I wouldn't be afraid to use, in fact I shoot at 800 frequently just because I want the shutter speed to stay up in Tv mode.

Even though I shoot with a Sony A7R2 and absolutely love the camera, I still have a place in my heart for the SL1! I use it for a few of my canon mount lenses. Here’s a quick shot I just took with the SL1 and my Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC. I was thinking of selling the camera, but no, it really is a keeper!

Honestly it is cleaner and more accurate than my 60 and 70D. Just too slow. Great for walk around though with a 40mm

I just got a 100D (SL1) as a lightweight alternative to my 70D before we went camping in southern France. I am very happy with it, but unfortunately haven't yet found a way to post pictures from my iPad here. The combination with the 24 mm STM is gorgeus and both the 10-18 mm STM and the 18-135 mm n-USM are also great. With the 24 it is just a few grams from my old Panasonic G2 with the 20 mm - and very glose to the same angle of view. This is a great travel camera and I look forward to a lot of great images :-)
If I dont find a way to post images, some will come when we get home (in 3 weeks or so).
