I'm heading down to Holden Beach, NC around the third week of August and am looking for some birding spots in the area. I've been to the northern side of the island early morning and got a few birds up there, but wondering if there are any better spots. With all the marsh lands around the area there has to be something.

lake waccamaw state park, a geologically unique Carolina Bay lake with a state park on one end, and green swamp preserve are near by.

i'm not a birder, but get out for hiking and camping a lot. Between Wilmington and Myrtle is pretty heavily developed, so if you can't find something in the inland waterway right at Holden, you probably won't have many options.

get away from the ocean breeze and prepare to sweat. :D
