There's a guy on here called tenounce (real name something quiles- I forget his first name) who done a YouTube comparison review of the two. My memory is poor though so can't remember the outcome

I did some google searching...seems it has the same issues the Vello knockoff has...poor quality control, random operation of buttons...cheap materials...I am going to keep searching daily for a used Sony one...

in the meantime...I have been on the same job site for the last two weeks, and noticed the huge shift in the beach sands, the Coquina rocks I love so much, are almost invisible right now, even at low tide. It made me go back to my set from April and look through them...there was so much more of the outcropping visible then...this is one of those images. It is a lot more edited than I would normally do...just having a little fun with it.

^Beautiful Travis.

Here is perhaps the only Loxia 35mm photo I will ever post. It is the little town of Senoia, Georgia, made famous in the television series The Walking Dead. The town was featured in season one as "Woodbury" ruled by the dictator called "The Governor". There is a real Woodbury, GA and it's just 22 miles south of Senoia.

Maybe I have a crap copy of the L35 or maybe the L35 is just crap, but every single wide open shot with this lens was just awful. I have never purchased a lens with such horrible wide-open performance before. And for such an expensive lens, it is completely unacceptable. Bummer, because other aspects of the lens are quite nice - especially the great form factor.

IMAGE: https://c8.staticflickr.com/9/8820/28189747263_51a15f8b79_o.jpg

So, one of the things I'm now doing is looking through my old photos with the little FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA to contemplate reverting back to that lens if I want a small 35mm. [BTW, this becomes incredibly easy via LR: just use the Metadata panel to pick a lens and you see all your shots with that lens] Anyway, in the process I ran across this shot of my Yorkies waiting for me to get back to the car. It was taken on a wet and misty day in January 2015 at West Point Lake. Not a great photo by any stretch...just had to share a little cuteness with you. :)

as a walking dead fan I'd really like to visit there, I just assumed they built a set. With regards to the FE35 2.8 I am trying to love it more but struggling to be honest. I can see mine going soon as it doesn't seem to make me want to use it

Other than an Official Walking Dead gift shop and a cleverly named coffee shop "The Waking Dead" there's not that much to Senoia from a Walking Dead fan standpoint (that I saw).

I know what you mean by the FE 35mm...I never loved it either. Not sure what I want to do next...maybe try the FE 28mm?

Does anyone have any experience with Meike Battery Grips...I have a new photo gig that is going to require a lot more shooting, people, activities and the like...and really want to have a grip, but $350 for the Sony grip is criminal...

I have one, I've only used it once because I bought it for a studio shoot that took several hours. It's definitely cheaply made, feels very flimsy, but not so much that I'd worry about it falling apart. The buttons and dials feel fine, but I had some strange connectivity issues with mine, I can't remember exactly what it was, but one or the dials or buttons kept flaking out on me forcing me to remove the grip and reattach it to make it work again... I believe it happened when I turned the camera off and on again.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you only use it very sparingly (like me). It does help with the ergonomics on a long shoot.

David, in that first image there's a fineness of line, and delicate colouring, that I find breathtaking. It appears to be your signature 'look'. Just sublime!

im actually considering picking up the FE28 again in lieu of the 35 at least until a 35 F/2 option or a Batis 28 or something like that comes around. The B25 is great but I realise now there's place for the 25 and 28 in the same bag

Maybe give the Sigma Art 35 a try? I love the sharpness of mine. It's definitely on the larger end of the spectrum as far as lenses go, and it's not native, but it works great with the MBIV (feels native in AF performance). The bokeh is probably it's weakest point, but if you're using it more for landscapes and stopped-down work, it's probably the sharpest 35 you're going to find right now.

Thanks so much! The Loxia 35mm does indeed have a lovely rendering when stopped down as in that photo. :)

Sharp and affordable. Definitely a consideration.

I'm one of the few people in the world that loves the FE 35 f2.8 :p

I feel it's re-invented my 35mm view. The lens has no weight, hardly any blurring abilities, and lowlight is mostly a camera thing. Even with all these struggles, I'm happy with it. My son is starting to get into photography, maybe a phase, who knows, but when I use my 35 along with him, it just feels right, it's similar to what his phone would produce in that it makes me focus strictly on composition since I cant blur much either :-P

Sometimes I do want the blur, so I bring the 100 f2 along, totally different lens of course, but the pairing just works for me. Would love a 105-115 batis F2 at a reasonable size to pair with a 35mm f2 batis, but I'll make due. The FE 35 is small, reasonably sharp at all apertures, plenty of contrast, easy keeper for me.

That does suck and I was thinking of you and the Loxias and Batiss' in general this morning. I had the 28mm + wide converter on just dinking around....me --without any conclusion-- wondering about the really nice lenses available for the A7x platform. I suppose I should be happy that grand landscape is not dominant in my mind--but when you count the monies I've spent a wee bit on long EOS glass so financially it's a wash either way.
I guess all that my way of saying the poor man's Loxia/Batiss=the 28 and wide adapter.

I really like my FE 35 f2.8 lens as well. I've had no issues with color, contrast size or sharpness.

A quick example shot taken not too long ago with this lens mounted on the a6300...
