How do you keep your camera cool when shooting in 105°+ temperatures? My camera slowed way down at that temperature. I didn't have any options other than staying in the shade, removing the battery and opening the LED screen. Finding shade was difficult.

I was thinking next time I shoot in those conditions using an ice chest with sealed cool packs, and putting the camera in a bag with a desiccant pack. Take it out just before shooting. Any other ideas?

go have a beer and put away the camera

as long as you keep your camera shaded, you should be fine I think.

BTW, I have this novelty hat: https://www.amazon.com …dband-Camouflage-Umbrella (external link)

it does an excellent job at shading during a hot day. Downside is that it's cheap and flimsy as it is, but with some limited DIY, you can make it very sturdy and functional. Just wont fold up anymore.

105 is the limit stated in the manual is it not?

104°F is.

To be honest, I would be scared to use the camera at those temps. Afraid of permanently damaging it. Not sure how realistic that thought is though.

jocau wrote in post #18088689 (external link)
Apparently you were operating the A7RII right at its temperature limit. From the Sony website (external link):

Operating Temperature: 32–104°F / 0–40°C

I understand the camera though, I would also overheat/die at that temperature. :p

Looks good enough to me ;) And at this size there's probably very little difference anyway ;)

If yours is the poor mans 28mm, what's my FD?? :( :(

Your FD is the smart man's move!

Can anyone recommend a sturdy and reasonably cheap pocket/table tripod? (Small, cheap and sturdy - that's probably not possible now I think about it).

I know some use the RRS pocket pod but that's not available in the UK and regardless RRS is expensive. Any other options?

I had the manfrotto table tripod, but I lost it somehow, and it was really nice, look up: Manfrotto 709 Digi Tabletop Tripod

I agree I will get the 28 in near future... as well with that 21 adapter

Think about the adapter though. Like anything thing you stick on a lens it has a cost and then another cost. To me it
is fine but might not be to you.
I've still got my old NEX 16mm and both adapters. I like them too but if memory serves many did not.

Thanks Charlie that looks promising. I take it it's reasonably stable?

I'm going to Florida 3 weeks this Friday and trying to work out if I'm taking my fiesol tripod or buying a pocket tripod instead. Certainly not taking my induro as it won't fit in the case :)

while in Florida, try to find a good Cajun place :), get some Gator, Crawfish, Gumbo and Jambalaya, Florida is technically not Cajun country, but it's close enough :)

yes, it was really stable. I was using my 5D2 with it, however I recall it was a bit heavy for its size.

i don't mind external option, at least doesn't eat up the battery... just need something that records well and outputs gpx files.

Eddie, for what it's worth, here's the tabletop tripod I use. It seems very stable as shown in my shot with the FE 85 f1.4 GM lens mounted on my a7rII.

Um... live in Phoenix shoot in the desert. Regularly over 105 and sometimes I leave both my cams on the tripod in the sun (I try not to but it is what it is)

I (knock on wood) have not had any slowing of the cameras...... I do worry about the lenses in the heat but not my cameras so far

looks very nice gene, I'de probably go that route as well, since it costs a whole lot less. Basically, when I bought the manfrotto, they were pretty much the only one to make that sort of thing, nowadays, there are lots of options. I continue to use my lightweight sock bean bag for those limited uses, does portraits and landscape orientations with ease.
