A couple weeks ago, I got asked to do a family session at their farm.
5D + 35 f2 IS or 135L

Nice set and family. Somehow this ones really seems to Pop.
PS, those lenses couple well with the 5D C.

Yeah, I loved how that was set up. I had the family stand just on the line between light and shadow and the dark background helped make them pop. Yeah I love the 35/135 combo on the 5D 2 6D - 35 f1.4L, 135 f2L, 50 f1.8 STM, 85 f1.8

Aug 09, 2016 14:21 | #9801 Thanks vasher, excellent shots!! It really depends on your personal preferences. I like my 35 a lot and use it for almost everything (I have owned the old model and currently own the 35 f2 IS). From time to time, I miss the 24mm end of my 24-105. 24 seems a little more "epic" wide, the 35 seems a little more normal wide if that makes sense. You may want to check out the 17-40L for wide on a budget, you can get those for around $400-500 used. 2 6D - 35 f1.4L, 135 f2L, 50 f1.8 STM, 85 f1.8

Aug 09, 2016 22:52 | #9803 I've been really happy with my 35 f2 so far. I hung on to my 50 1.8, but I haven't used it since getting the 35. Thinking I might pick up the 85mm next. -Dane

Aug 12, 2016 01:42 | #9807 I'm tempted to go that route, too (24-105 F/4 L). Something about primes I like though. I think I like that it requires more use of my brain, lol. I used to walk around with my XTI and a Sigma 10-20 almost exclusively, though I was primarily shooting landscapes and old buildings. I also would really like a 70-200, lol. What do you all find the best meter setting to avoid blowing out highlights? I'm sure I could fine-tune far better during PP, but I was just curious. Thanks. -Dane

Yeah I really like my 24-105 when I'm outdoors mostly and on vacation as an all in one. I still find that I need the 35 prime to help in low light situations with the 5D's somewhat "limited" ISO. I use it mostly for the 24mm end, but sometimes use the whole range. 2 6D - 35 f1.4L, 135 f2L, 50 f1.8 STM, 85 f1.8

I will have patience! I've found the evaluative metering does pretty well for keeping highlights, at least during bright days. Tends to heavy underexpose the ground, but it seems nicer to fade shadows into black than try to rescue blown highlights. ![]() ![]() ![]()
