If they were mine, I'd consider burning in or cloning out the vase in no. 2 in the upper right hand corner. The shot in no.2 isolates the child a little more than in no. 1. With the form of the vase being somewhat uncertain and with the lack of highlight or shadow detail elsewhere, the vase somehow competes with the child for my attention. Contrast that with the environment in no. 1. The shot is a little wider, and there's just a little more shadow and highlight detail making the vase and drape and furnishings look more natural to my eye. I know it's not the C&C section, but the distinction between the two really struck me. It's just a tiny thing. Feel free to tell me to take a walk. Thank you, and I totally hear where you're coming from, I'll have a play later. Interesting that you pick out shadow detail, in the modern rush towards greater DR I almost always go the opposite, reducing shadow detail to highlight what I want people to look at. Interestingly my fav pic from the set is with his brother, which I didn't include here as it wasn't strictly a portrait, but, the vase is hidden... It has a caustic quality like a reflection off of a curved surface or water. I can observe the pronounced catchlights in the eyes, but I can't discern the type of source from them. -Matt
