I found my first ones this to photograph this year, we have the Black necked variety. They arent even supposed to be here, but we get a small population that returns each year to breed. usually around 10 birds. they are fun to watch, noisy things too

Somuch detail Im sure the 7dMk2 and 100-400 Mk2 combo will go down as one of Canons greatest ever developed for mid range wildlife shots. Just amazing the IQ the sensor and glass combo give in area of color, contrast, feather detail etc etc etc .......PP spot on also for both the crop as well as your full body shot

I actually spelled the name wrong, it's Heermann's Gull. The majority of the population nest on an island off Baja California. They will migrate as far north as B.C but never leave sight of the water.

They only change color during breeding season when the head feathers turn completely white, otherwise, the body color is consistent. Apparently, this one isn't one of the lucky ones.;-)a

I can't tell you how much Canon is teaching me about wildlife.

Finally I got a decent photo of a Belted Kingfisher! This was taken just after a dive in the river. A quick shake to get rid of the excess water! Looks like a great place to perch!
