Just a backyard bird. The level of detail is amazing to me.

I agree. There is something about the detail captured on the 1D X Mark II sensor that is above and beyond what one would normally expect from a 20mp sensor.

That's because it's really 40mp due to the dual-pixel sensor.

I'm just kidding. I have no idea what kind of voodoo magic is incorporated. I'm just glad they did it, whatever they did.

Got a few min's today when it wasn't raining-

Love the pose in the first photograph!

Out of curiosity, did FoCal have to make many adjustments? (Don't worry, I'm not looking for numbers...just a general idea on how much FoCal microadjusted.

I'm going to start the loooonnng process of calibrating my never-before calibrated 5DsR and 1DX2 next week. I have a lot of lenses, so I know it's going to take awhile. I think I'll just start with the lenses that I will be taking on my next two trips: 4 days in Acadia National Park right after Labor Day and then 3 weeks of fall color photography across New England in late Sept/Oct.

Bryan we spent 5 hours --45 min's setting up at the hospital-- this thread has a pic of my set up:

We did 7Dii, 5Dsr, 1DXii with 100-400ii, 400DOii, 500ISii with 1.4TCiii and 2.0TCiii when possible.
I didn't do the 100mm wide calibration on the 100-400ii; I can do that at home; everything else needed a looooooong hallway, so since it has
been 5 days of rain I went to the hospital

On how much calibration it is interesting that the 1DXii needed the least of the bodies no matter which lens; often needing zero adjustment.
The lens combo that needed the most was the 400DOii on all bodies possible when used with the 2.0TCiii.....no surprise there.
The least of all was the 500ISii requiring zero wih 1.4TCiii and +2 with 2.0TCiii.

If you use FoCal you know upfront that it is not truly fully auto, but it will voice prompt you when to make the AF-micro adjustment for the next round.
All in all very easy. Just plan on a lot of coffee if you do it in the wee hours of the morning like we did

With that many different bodies and lenses I suspect a stats guy would be able to start to work out how far off perfect each body and lens are likely to be.

I have a 5D3 that went for a service (with a faulty 70-200). I asked Canon not to adjust the body unless it was way off, and they confirmed it was pretty good. Given that all the lenses I've MFA'd are on small adjustment numbers (< +/-5) I assume the lenses must be pretty good.

The problem is that with one body and one lens a single MFA value doesn't really tell you whether you have 0 and 0 (=0) or -20 and +20 (=0). Hence the problem when a guy (with a body he doesn't realise is -20) carefully collects lenses over the years that work perfectly (+20) gets a new body (that happens to be a perfect 0), and then claims the new body is trash because none of his lenses hit focus.

I'll stop being a geek now
