Used the TC 2x II on a cormorant this morning. Result is so so, not so much because of the extender but because now I had to shoot at f/8 and it was just after sunrise so I needed all the aperture I could get. Good thing I brought a monopod. Even though I have no idea how to use that thing properly... Still had too much noise to clean up though.

Well I recon Id rather Qld to Vic actually :).........There are way more types of Kingfisher up there than down here especially the azure kingfisher. I would give an arm and a leg for a decent shot of one of them thats for sure.......I only had one chance many years ago when I was in Pt Douglas and I thought I had it nailed especially as the thing landed maybe 3 meters away and just sat there and posed for me in all its glory ....that was until I got the bloody thing into Lightroom it was blurred beyond useable/recoverable ...And even worse the reason why it was blurred was I had forgotten to change settings from a previous group of shots where I had the damn camera set for aperture priority and the thing had picked 1/10th sec shutter to cmatch with a f16 aperture as iso was fixed and low!..And this was shooting at the 400mm end of a telephoto handheld so I was doomed from the start. . And even worse than that was I didnt even notice the slow sound of the shutter !! :)

Maybe you have a couple you can post here for the benefit our POTN brethren based in USA ......and ofcourse myself as well :)

Clipper, Azure Kingfisher are wide spread in Victoria, the hard bit is to be in the right spot at the right time ;).
I have not got a decent shot of them yet but have photographed them in Victoria, NSW, ACT and Queensland.
This shot while not good was taken at Marlo, Victoria.

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

I would say Chauncey ...paramount in the minds and hearts of every wild life shooter. All I ever do is try and get the sharpest image I can using everything I know how to do.

Thanks very much. The old 100-400 and classic 5D. When I go through the archives and see opportunities like this that I'll likely never duplicate in my lifetime, I wish that I had the gear then that I do now.

Ha! I'd counter that you were there and you maxed the gear you had besting millions of shots with today's gear; beyond that you had the master's eye for an incredible composition!
