My poor 1DX is now relegated to being a secondary camera. Love the 1DX 2!! Haven't used it in a paying gig yet but will next weekend.

This is the first time that my primary and backup camera body have all of the same basic capabilities & configuration. I use both bodies a lot when shooting a wedding and when I shoot motorsport so its nice to have all the buttons setup to do the same thing.

Still trying to get my one either fixed or exchanged as its still not giving results as good as my 1DX on moving subjects and locking up like a brick at race meetings if using large bursts of RAW's writing to CFast, had new PCB fitted and various A/F adjustments by Canon but trying to get the camera exchanged for a newer later model as its gone on way to long now.

When I did the airshow, I took about 2000 shots over 3 hours. Most of my bursts were 4-8 frames, but some were as much as 20. I was writing everything to the CFast card. I didn't have any problems. However, I'm guessing that your usage at the races was much more aggressive than what I was doing?

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

With that many different bodies and lenses I suspect a stats guy would be able to start to work out how far off perfect each body and lens are likely to be.

I have a 5D3 that went for a service (with a faulty 70-200). I asked Canon not to adjust the body unless it was way off, and they confirmed it was pretty good. Given that all the lenses I've MFA'd are on small adjustment numbers (< +/-5) I assume the lenses must be pretty good.

The problem is that with one body and one lens a single MFA value doesn't really tell you whether you have 0 and 0 (=0) or -20 and +20 (=0). Hence the problem when a guy (with a body he doesn't realise is -20) carefully collects lenses over the years that work perfectly (+20) gets a new body (that happens to be a perfect 0), and then claims the new body is trash because none of his lenses hit focus.

I'll stop being a geek now ;-)a

Ha! I'm a geek to perfection when I'm in the hospital; but when I'm free I know nothing! Close enough, good enough kind of philosophy! That said the next lens I'll FoCal is my venerable EOS 28-70 :) I don't expect miracles with it though :)

a few from the Friday Rehearsal for the 2016 Chicago Air and Water Show .. I only shoot one air show a year ( wish I could fit a few more in, but for now ) .. These two first . I blew what I wanted on the cross over because I panned through the intersection, but I ( and colleagues) like the result . the 1DX Mk II and a 100-400 L II are close to the perfect airshow cam for general coverage and tight shots ..

Heritage Flight has added the F-35 to escort it's great grandfather P-51 .. and an F/A 18 in the afterburner turn with BBQ in the back lit up .. The rehearsal show is just that - the Saturday and Sunday F/A 18 s performed the same routine back to back .. and the Thunderbirds did a morning 'mark' run and a full dress rehearsal for the afternoon . If you ever shoot this show , go on Friday , and whether credentialed or not , you'll get a great spot ..

I like how you tracked the correct jet during the cross. I almost always track the wrong plane. :D

Thanks Bob.
Shutter is meter only
BBF on AF-On and Star button
AF-ON is AISERVO Case 2 (since I'm surrounded by trees) AF selection is Surrond
Star is AISERVO Case 5 (for hail Mary like what we have with ROF in the 1Div), auto selection is all points possible.

Of course all the above subject to change and frequently does but that's the most frequent for BIF.

I'm curious about what the sensor on the new 5dmiv is how it compares to the 1dxmii. I have the idxmii, 6d, 7dmii and the 7d. Considering selling the 6d and 7d and getting the 5dmiv. I'm simply amazed by the sensor on the 1dxmii!
