I recently got one of the newly released S&W M&P Shield in .45ACP. Great little carry weapon!

SUPER tempted to get one of these to go with my shield 9mm. 1911 are just too big for tall skinny guys haha

I'm interested in downsizing from my Shield (9mm), honestly. Not exactly sure where to start looking, but I'm not a real big guy so weight is a concern of mine.

I have always carried a .45ACP. My primary carry is a Glock 30SF. However, once I get a little used to the Shield I will probably "retire" the Glock!

It's been awhile since we could have normal handguns over here, but what's with the "CAUTION-CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED" notice in the gun? Pre 97 I cannot think of any semi auto pistol that had a magazine linked safety system to prevent firing the gun with the magazine removed. I'm used to pistols with auto last round hold open, where you need to remove the magazine to close the action on an empty chamber and then dropping the hammer. Or is this just a symptom of the widespread lack of training in safe weapons handling in the US, combined with the ease of ownership? Not that I think widespread ownership of firearms is a bad thing. Has there been many incidents of Negligent Discharge where someone thought that removing the magazine was all it took to unload a semi auto pistol?

The ones that seem to do that most often are police officers. You'll sometimes see a story about how someone "shot someone while cleaning their gun" and it just "went off".

Of course, that is absurd and anyone who believes that is a moron.

There are a large number of pistols that have a magazine disconnect feature. But the warning is just another CYA from the manufacturers' legal departments to combat a sue-happy public.

I thought this feature was only on the civilian version of firearms and for law enforcement it's absent so the officer could drop the mag in certain situations and render the gun inoperative like if they feel the firearm might be taken. I thought I heard (don't quote me on this) that in some states police cant have this feature for the reasons stated above. When I bought my M&P they asked me if I wanted it with or with out it I bought it with it.
