One from today again with 65mm extension and E-M5. Uncropped. I thought black and white suited it.

Edit: This is the color version with some minor sharpening. I'm kind of torn between the two

No pictures to share, but having just sent my lens back for the fourth repair in four years I thought I'd post a warning to others regarding this lens. The fault is recurrent and manifests itself as a failure to lock focus, with the AF motor seeming to "jitter" or hunt without locking, or locking only rarely. The diagnosis is "failure of the motor rotation sensor" or MR sensor for short. I have been told by Sigma servicing that the fault occurs due to infrequent use of the lens and this leads to lubricants drying out or migrating to areas they ought not to be. The MR sensor includes mechanical components and it seems that lack of use causes malfunction

Now I have never experienced a problem like this or any other with any of my Canon lenses, some now nine years old, but my seldom used Sigma lens seems to suffer on an annual basis as I wheel it out of retirement to shoot some summer events. Every time I do so the lens is US and has to be sent in for repair. By the time it come back the events I wanted to shoot are over. As unsatisfactory as this situation is I thought it was worth posting as a warning to others who might find themselves using their own 120-300/2.8 OS (non sport) infrequently.

On a positive note Sigma has picked up the lens and will be repairing FOC, despite the lens now being a year outside warranty. They have explained the situation regarding the root cause of the problem so I guess it is my responsibility to make sure the lens continues to work. Either that or I sell it to someone who can use it on a more frequent basis.

This is not a grumble type post, but I hope it serves as a helpful warning to others.

My 120-300 is now my longest owned lens. I've never had a problem picking it up and using it it and this is with several months of no use. Mine has been rock solid. Sorry to hear your issues are persistent.

Wow, given that for me this is a mostly "shelved" lens, I guess i;d best break it out and do some test shots more often
thanks for the note!

I took this photo 26 months ago out of a whim not realizing it's true meaning at the time. I am a Ford Mustang fan and WANT a mustang and could have one right now BUT with the kids Choir, Dance & Baseball this consumes the equivalent of a Shelby Mustang. However looking back and seeing this photo I now get it. I put my kids first and have always done so and will continue to support their growth. I am truly blessed to have been given such a great family. One day I'll get my mustang... but for now the kids lead the race.
