Yeah, those are likely... :)

I'd guess that the 7FPS limit is about data path issues. With one processor and 30MP files you're not going to be able to dump data to the card(s) fast enough to support more than 7 FPS. I'm actually impressed that they go that fast considering the 1Dx has twice the processing power, 2/3 the file size, supports cFast and only sports twice the frame rate.

AF point linked to metering should be entirely possible in firmware but is likely a 1 series feature in Canon's mind.

I can but hope :)

With the 7D2 and 1Dx2 having such high fps, I was hoping Canon would have gone for at least 8; which wouldn't step on either of those two other body's toes.

Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

I'm so disappointed about no AF point linked spot metering in the 5Div!!!
I'd been contemplating the 1DXii, but I don't need 14 fps and would really love 30mpx rather than 20. Not to mention the substantial cost saving of waiting for the 5Div instead.
AF point spot metering would be such a fantastically useful thing to have though that at this point I'm thinking it will be enough to outweigh the other factors pulling me towards the 5div.
I meant to post this in the 5Div thread, oops :-D

Great news fellow Canon 1D X II owners! Canon is about to release a significant firmware update (1.1) for the 1DX2. There are a lot of new features being added and while they are largely aimed towards the press photographer, some of these things can and will be useful for many of us. Yes, I was hoping for additional touch screen functionality, but perhaps that is coming later on down the road. ;-)a

For a complete discussion on all of the new features, check out Rudy's article here:

Cheers,
Bryan

A pisser. I know it's a phone thing but I really would like swiping ability in playback of images===childish I know :(
And now the 5Div has complete touch functions I'm jealous!

I'm confused. This is a thread about the 1DX2. Did you mean to post this in the 5D4 thread?

Cheers,
Bryan

LOL, I thought that might be the case. I know what you mean though...there are some tough decisions to make. Best wishes for sorting out what's best for your needs.

Cheers,
Bryan

It's lunchtime Friday here and if I can find a 1Dxii in stock (no stores had them when I checked a couple of weeks ago) I may even have one by tonight ߘ.

Anyone want to persuade me that spot metering linked to the AF point isn't that great afterall?? You might help me save $3,600 AUD. I must be mad to consider paying that much more for the one feature which really matters to me, over what the 5Div offers ;-)a

Yes, if that is the only benefit that matters to you, it would be mad. But the 1DX2 offers so much more. Once you get it in your hands and after you've used it a few times, you will be so proud of your decision to buy a Canon 1D X Mark II.

Don't hesitate, buy now!
