I'd guess that the 7FPS limit is about data path issues. With one processor and 30MP files you're not going to be able to dump data to the card(s) fast enough to support more than 7 FPS. I'm actually impressed that they go that fast considering the 1Dx has twice the processing power, 2/3 the file size, supports cFast and only sports twice the frame rate.
AF point linked to metering should be entirely possible in firmware but is likely a 1 series feature in Canon's mind.
I can but hope
With the 7D2 and 1Dx2 having such high fps, I was hoping Canon would have gone for at least 8; which wouldn't step on either of those two other body's toes.
