Canon 5D mark iv video crop factor vs. full frame still:

QUOTED IMAGE

"Conclusion:

In my opinion, the new Canon 5D Mark IV is first and foremost a photo camera that can shoot high quality 4K video, and by doing so, helps the professional photographer in his work. As customers, we have to realize that Canon is making a clear definition between its product lines, and if you are in the market for a video camera that shoots high quality video and has all the usual functions from Canon, then you have to look at their EOS C line."

There we go, case closed, no more complaining about the 5D4 not being the next Arri Alexa, right?

Sit back and wait patiently! Native 4K projectors are $10000-15000 now, even thru Amazon.

Yup. which is why I am waiting. The 1080P looks GREAT on my 135" and I sit 12' away from the screen. I seriously am 100% happy and all I'm using is the benq W1070 for now. Did that and will wait for 4K. Won't buy the oppo until they come out with 4k. I got a couple more years still. I"ll buy a 4K projetor when the native ones can be had for 5k. home theater is my other hobby.... and it's way more expensive for the gear I buy for that. Just had my Krell recapped so happy to get that back in service :)

Most people HAVE to have 4k... 135" screen 12' away and I'm OK with 1080P!!!... Sure 4K would make an improvement but all the info I've seen I should be the FIRST one to complain about 4k but I'm not... because 1080p is so awesome on my screen... and 90% of my movies playback native at 24fps which is also preferred for me for movies.

i want 4k... i wnat 4k i want 4k.... oh ya?... why?... oh I got a 60" TV and want that amazing 4k... hoe step back and check yourself. :p

I'm pretty sure the case was closed when Canon made the announcement. I also laugh at the fact people can't come to terms that 80% of the buyer will be AMAZED at the 5D4 performance.... like me.

Once again the minority trying to conquer the world... remember WE are the minority as I bet that all us vocal internet peeps only account for a small percentage of people who buy the 5D4 that never get online and involved in forums. We cannot accurately know what the general consumer wants in this camera but Canon knows it's marketing and they keep all that stuff under wraps.

They announced it... no reason to complain.... buy it or not. Me... I'm so damn excited I'm giggly like a school girl.

I have to have a grip when I'm shooting, adds a lot of stabilization for myself. Thing is at $490.00 lol, looks like I won't be picking one up right away.

One of the things that would get me to upgrade is the touch screen. Watching the Rudy Winston YouTube about Stills is very cool that you can focus on a particular area and enable the tap-to-shoot as well.

I think it was B&H mentioned having that grip for $349. Still not cheap but not quite as bad

Sad how we cannot project even the resolution of the Canon 20D without spending $10000

So was the previous version. It won't be that price for long.

Just like the camera won't be 3499 for long either. Early adopters pay the price.

I'm robbing peter to pay paul to be able to afford this camera. I know coming from a 5d2 I'm going to be absolutely blown away but I'm entering that point of hobbyist moving towards working photographer and I just couldn't let this go. So I'm fully in. I just hope there is no buyers remorse, which I kinda expect to happen but, whatever, gotta do what you gotta do. I should have the price offset by the holidays with a wedding coming up and two other shoots in oct and dec.

I kinda feel now, like the time of playing with my camera to shoot my kids has come to an end. It kinda sucks. This camera though will get me through the next stage of my journey, and it's going to be interesting.

Not to put YOU down personally, but you opened the can of worms...You well expressed the reason why 'crippled video' (vs. video with a 'professional camera') is what distinguish an 'amateur' from a working pro...CONVENIENCE. (IOW, 'too lazy to want to carry something better') which is what makes inferior MP3 audio fidelity preferable to CDs, or what makes smartphone with digital zoom cameras preferable to quality P&S with optical zoom, or the typical anemic bluetooth 2" speaker preferable to a full sized speaker with some bass.

I see all these gadgets ADDED to dSLR 'video cameras' o make them into workable video (rather than awkward wannabe video cameras they are)....elaborate mount/grips, microphone extenders, mounts for external monitors, etc. reminds me of taking smartphones and turning them into 'interchangeable lens' cameras with those externally mounted lens clipped on! Yet these are being used by folks covering weddings and their gear is NOT being used occasionally as a still dSLR...so why not carry a dedicated video camera which does need all those addons to make them more useable?!

this mentality is akin blackberry think.

you know one time, the 5Dii did give amateurs pro quality results. You can call it a wannabe, but your analogy is utterly so far out comparing it to smart phones. You think guys like philip bloom are wannabe's? or studios that used the 5Dii?

Canon didnt continue their tradition with video, they made 4K video a notch below what the 1Dxii could do.

Currently Not in the market and even if I was I wouldn't pre-order. I tried that once and it was a 100% fail.

Observation: somewhere/somewhen I watched a show about the Sony transistor radio. The radio you could put in a pocket and take anywhere. At the time of release, the then current technology couldn't make it small enough to fit in a shirt pocket so for the promo videos they made shirts with bigger pockets. All manufacturers do the same thing. Bend the truth a bit. It is nice to dream and wish but as they say the proof is in the pudding.

Question: the 7D2 has a GPS unit that does not turn off when you turn the camera off; the 1DX2 has a GPS unit that does turn off when you turn the camera off. With this in mind what is the status of the GPS unit in the 5D4? Will it remain on or does it turn off when the camera is turned off. I only made a quick pass through the written material and didn't notice a reference to this. Also haven't watched any of the videos.

Looking forward to some 'real people' reviews.

Rod

Sit back and wait patiently! Native 4K projectors are $10000-15000 now, even thru Amazon.

The TV industry pushes 4K simply to sell yet more TVs after the 3D fizzled as a draw to the massess. 4K will be slow on uptake, too, as only the early adopters will put up with a lack of programming (remember the Laserdisc?!) In 10 years $10000 might be down to $500, for 4K projectors, but only if they sell enough (not matching TV demand volume)...it took about that long for the first 1080p big screens to come down from $10K to $500.

Hey my laserdisc still works. I have the entire Star Trek line (up the that point) on LD.

HYPERBOLE...to make a point, is what I deliberately chose to use, when talking about video add-ons to dSLRs vs. lens add-ons to smartphones, but the same principle applies!

As for Philip Bloom, wouldn't he be better off (and perhaps even make even better video) with a dedicted Canon video camera?!
