Pokey LaFarge has been around a few years but I've just recently stumbled onto his music. Don't know how to describe it exactly though, but it's smokin' stuff. Midwestern, country, jazz, swing, roots... I don't know. You figure it out for yourself. :-D

Canon 60D+EFs 18-200, EFs 10-18, G5, A20 (retired), Pentax Optio Z10, Powershot A620 and a recently adopted Digital Rebel/300D

This reminds me of the time I once went into an Apple Store and the young “Genius” came over to me extolling the virtues of an iMac, explaining how you could sync your iPod with the Mac so that they both had the same music on them. I told him that I didn’t have an iPod.
“Oh,” he said rather perplexed, “how do you listen to music then?”
“I have a gramophone,” I replied, “but it’s a bit of a twat getting hold of the wax cylinders these days.”
He just looked at me with utter puzzlement.

It never ceases to amaze me how dense intelligent people are.
I’ve had more intelligent conversations with lobotomised amoebas.

Hrm,

Just recently I watched a really awesome b-movie called Turbo Kid. The sound track rustled my jimmies, so I started looking for it and I fell down the rabbit hole in a genre of music that I didn't know was really blowing up, synthwave (also known as retrowave). Basically 80's synth pop that models after soundtracks from scifi's and games and the like, but modern. I'm an 80's kid, so it tugged hard at me.

So I found Bandcamp, a website for buying directly from the artists, and I started buying albums on there that way in FLAC format (you can also stream the music you buy later too which is handy).

So lately I've been absolutely enthralled with:

Gunship (external link)
Le Matos, Chronicles of the Wasteland (external link)
Dynatron, Aeternus (external link)
Perturbator, Dangerous Days (external link)

Others to know about:

Timecop 1983 Reflections (external link)
Carpenter Brut, Trilogy (external link)
Duett, Borderline (external link)
Lazerhawk, Redline (external link)
Mega Drive (external link)
Starforce, Age of Nano (external link)

And so much more... a totally great genre if you're an 80's kid that loved those sounds from games & scifi and action from the 80's!

Very best,

You'd have to be 99 years old to have shared some time with him. I've got a few 78RPMs with various rags.

From the other end of the spectrum:
