Keep in mind that in 1520, people were considerably shorter. Tehuelches might have been 'normal' now.

To my knowledge, in the USA old human bones are always a very hot topic as the native US-population claim everything 'pre-historic' as their ancestors. Existing human bones need to be returned and buried and novel discoveries left alone. Scientific investigations are very difficult and require a great deal of maneuvering. Therefore, I am not surprised that any request to see old human bones in a US-museum will be dealt with the utmost care and it seems that you encountered a strict communication policy.

If you do any kind of study you will find there were allot of people through out history that was considered giants .
Its seems there is hundreds of records of people being 8 and 9 foot tall , there are swords that were recovered to help back this history .

And there were plenty of stories of people who were a lot shorter than the norm. But people who fall outside the statistical norm were anomalies, not the norm. There was no race of giants.

There are also some maps made in the 1500 about giants that I find interesting .

and others about Mermaids, unicorns, giant birds and a host of other mythical creatures.

In keeping with the string of not-exactly-photography-related comments, I'll add this from the Wikipedia entry "Si-Te-Cah":

According to the Paiutes, the Si-Te-Cah were a red-haired band of cannibalistic giants. The Si-Te-Cah and the Paiutes were at war, and after a long struggle a coalition of tribes trapped the remaining Si-Te-Cah in Lovelock Cave. When they refused to come out, the Indians piled brush before the cave mouth and set it aflame. The Si-Te-Cah were annihilated.

This and related entries on Indian "oral history" make for interesting reading. I'd never before heard of the red-haired giants of Lovelock, Nevada.

My personal theory, if there really had been a community of red haired giants living in per-historic north America there'd already be at least one sports franchise with them as a mascot.

but the sentiment is that it is demeaning, not usage of the name in order to HONOR a group. 'Redskins', 'Indians' a demeaning use of the name per some folks.

'Yankees', "Patriots', 'Steelers', 'Bengals', 'Warriors'...must be demeaning as well, but these groups just don't realize it!?

Actual giants do not exist. And neither do ghosts...

How do you prove that giants or ghosts don't exist (or never existed)? Even if there was no proof that they did exist, that's not the same as saying there's proof that they didn't (or don't).

There WAS proof! Photographic proof!
There was this lady who got ghost images with her film camera. She sent it in for a repair & the guys noticed pin holes in the bellows & fixed them too.
She complained that she didn't get ghost images any more. So the repair guys re-fixed it for her!

Its the same with the Lock Ness Monster, many folk have thier own beliefs but the only way folk would ever know once and for all would be if they did a live viewing/filming of a complete draining of the Lock and checking all the channels - caves, that would be an impossible task due to the volume of water in the lock.

But without doing that it will always be a mystery.

Frank...I might suggest that very few of my images represent photographic proof.

Setting aside for one moment the fact that the concept is a logical fallacy, why would you bother to prove that something doesn't exist. If there is no evidence that it exists then it is just a story someone made up, like Mermaids, Centaurs and the hundreds of other fairy stories.
