One of my biggest crops yet with this camera body.
Anyway, I watch this Red-bellied land on this snag and break off a piece of bark,
then he flew away. Bark for dinner! Must have had a grub in it.

This one is a real thinker,.. he call's in the morning until I put the seed out. he just sat there looking right at me for a good long time, made me wonder just what was going though his head.

I stepped on a big brown tiger snake once whilst hiking the Overland track in Tasmania.....It was sunning itself on the track and I thought it was a bloody tree root and ended up nearly stepping on the damn thing!...Lucky I had gaiters on as the thing went straight for my lower leg...Had a strike and then took off:)......I freaked out and it took me another 1/2 an hour to get myself together and stop shaking I was that rattled by it....Especially as I had been warned by the Rangers when I started the track that I may come a cross a few sunning themselves during the 6 days I was on the track . So much for the warning...In one ear and out the other. Suffice to say ever since that time I listen very intently to any advice anyone may have when it comes to what to look out for on any track I may hike that I havnt been on before :)

BTW the Overland track is one of Australias top wilderness hiking tracks. It covers the Alpine high plains area of Tasmania from Cradle Mountain to lake St Clair

A hikers pic of the type of snake in Tasmania I encountered is here although this area is 50 odd K from where I was hiking.http://ourhikingblog.com.au …e-bites-tips-to-avoid.htm (external link)

That's the main problem with forest walking...............the tracks are invariably the only open space where the sun gets through for reptiles to sun themselves. They must be particularly dozy in spring as I actually tripped over a huge goanna one day whilst I was looking up for bird life. I think he was more shocked that I was! :-)
