So I know in my mind how to ask this but putting it in words is tough.

I have seen professional photographers using a 5DM3 that when they take a photo and then review or look at it in Playback on the LCD screen of the camera that you can see the focus box right where it was on the subjects face on the screen in Playback after the picture was taken. Now I know it obviously will not print out like that but it is there in camera.

I can see the point, it gives good information and feedback to the photographer on where the focus point was during shooting.

Does anyone know how this is achieved? Is it a setting? Is it only specific to the 5D series? I have a brand new 6D and would love to know if I can change a setting to get this feature active on my camera.

Under the third arrow icon in the menu, go to AF point disp. and enable the function.

Be aware though that it only tells you where it acquires focus, AFAIK. If you recompose after you acquire focus, then the displayed point will be in the wrong spot on the captured image.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

So this why I've been studying photography, the birth of my son. Born on 8/30, we got a quick newborn session in this past Wednesday and this was my fav of the session.

Strobist details - one Godox Ad360 camera left with the standard reflector held by an assistant holding a 40 degree Paul C Buff grid over the reflector to narrow the light onto just the subject. One Godox AD600 in a 53" elinchrom octa high and camera left to just add a little light to the background for separation. Metered for the lights in the letters.

Thanks for looking!
