People are fond of dismissing the 6D based on specs and price, but I suspect most who believe this have never photographed with one. It is an extremely capable camera that is both superior and inferior to the 5Diii in several areas, all of which have been hashed over many times. For what I do, the 6D is simply a better choice. What I wanted in the 5D4 was a combination of the two, and by all reports I'm getting it and more. I'm not nuts about paying $3500 to get there but I suspect this is a camera that is going to make us all very happy for several years.
3499 is not bad if you intend to keep the camera the full cycle, if not more. a lot of people are waiting for the price to drop, but that probably won't happen for another year, and it might drop 500 bucks. for example, i bought the 5d3 when it first came out in 2012, 4.5 years ago for full price. I just sold the camera a few weeks ago for $1600. so my total cost of ownership was about $1900 over 4.5 years, so about $420 a year to use the camera. I intend to do the same with the 5d4. I'm just waiting for a few more reviews to come out, and maybe if there are going to be any of those bundle deals that come out from various retailers (ie. free memory cards, filters, etc.)
I loved the 5d3, and there wasn't much wanted other than some cleaner shadows, and some minor feature wants (auto iso in M!)and I've got that and much more with the new mark iv. The ONLY thing I might consider is the a7r2 with an adapter, but thats more like 5% chance.
