its only 4 nights lol.. and with the girlfriend just recovering from knee surgery most of our time will be spent at resort ..except for one day at Mayan pyramids.. so yeah more than i need probably , but i figured just to be on the safe side especially since not bringing laptop to offload SD cards as i usually do and
This is also the first vacation with 4k cameras and that eats up alot of gigs.

i'v just sold the canon 5d3.. not really sure what will replace it .. or if it needs replacing .
This trip i guess will let me know if between the a7sii and my m4/3 camera i will be satisfied ... or will i find out that i will miss having a higher Mp ff camera.. time will tell ..
Hoping the a7sii doenst let me down
I am excited to get out there and really test it out tho:-)

Rant I think your purchases wise. For the big trips I try to buy brand new brand name batteries, though I use Wasabi a lot I still feel I get a bit more out of the brand and sometimes a lot
more run time and lifespan. Can never have too many cards, seriously what do they weigh!
Speaking of cards, every hear of GOBE, as far as I can tell they are not available in U.S. but I'm working a friend in Canada to ship me some--105 vs 95mb/sec, for when every electron counts.
Another thing I'll bring along on every Sony trip is a USB brick like the Patriot+ fuel cell or something like it.

Wow. I just spent 2 weeks in Florida and took the two batteries that came with my camera (didn't manage to drain a full battery in any of the days) and took 2no 64 gig SD cards and didn't fill the first one :). I didn't shoot any video though

I'm right there with you David, begrudgingly feeling the urge to pick up a 5D IV and pit it against my A7Rii. Everything I've heard from fellow shooters has been raves. I also held on to the vast majority of my Canon glass, simply because I was afraid this might happen... "I should sell these lenses. But wait, what if I want to go back, then I'm screwed."

For me, the biggest reason for switching over to Sony was focus. As a (mostly) portrait shooter, Eye-AF has been life changing. And even outside of portraits, the keeper rate is absolutely insane on the A7Rii. Since switching to Sony, I'm constantly amazed at the detail in Sony files, and the magic I can pull out of them, but my most frequent complaint about Sony, and it's one that keeps me up at night, so to speak, is COLOR. Skintones are not Sony's strength. And I shoot a LOT of skin, it's my bread and butter.

Canon's not perfect either. Back when I was a Canon shooter, sometimes I'd battle with what I called "Canon Redface". Now, even more often and to a more drastic extreme it seems, I battle Sony Orangeface. It also seems to introduce more green than it should. And that's even in situations where I've custom set WB. Don't even get me started on AWB, which is just downright bad on the Sony.

Or maybe it's just GAS. Idunno. But I think I may end up picking up a 5D IV, and shoot it alongside my A7Rii, and see what shakes out.

This is one of the main reasons I'm testing out a Fuji XT2 this weekend. Mind, first impressions are not in the range of 'best camera ever' but the white balance and skin tones on this Fuji is just...wow. Why can't Sony match this. I seem to be unable to get these tones even with raw processing. Any tips?

This.

The first thing I do on an edit is change the profile from Adobe standard. I find camera portrait works for skin for me although I'm not a portrait photographer and probably not as critical on it as others would be.

In the past with 5d4 and t4i, yeah between the 2 maybe just a hair under 32 gigs worth of pics and just a couple of clips of video for about 6/7 day vacations .(not saying all good pics :-P).. also the batteries would be about 50% at the end of each day.. however with each vacation i started doing more video and noticed that ,that really eats up even canon batteries

Still probably over kill for this short trip.. :-) .. but ill sleep better

In raw a lot can be fixed, but it's still kinda annoying Sony not being able to deliver jpg rendering both in colour accuracy and skin tones like some competitors. Just been out shooting my daughter with both the XT2, A6300 and D750. The A6300 has by far the sharpest images, a lot of them thanks to very good face tracking and eyeAF but the colors of the Fuji are just amazing. Too bad the Fuji isn't as sharp or as detailed to me as the Sony. Might be user error of course, just have the camera for a few days.

I don't ever shoot Jpegs but I can see how that would be an issue.

Not really and it seems like the next logical move.

The a7rII's low light performance is pretty damn good already...it's one stop away from the a7s, and its a 42mp sensor with almost 3x the resolution. Imagine what Sony could do with a lower resolution sensor.

24mp BSI sensor with a99II processor and a6300 AF system and viewfinder. Low-light speed demon right there.
