Canon 5D Mark IV -- Time to Discuss!

Has anyone on here bought a 5D4 grey import?
Due to the price for this camera in the UK a grey import seems a very tempting offer...I havent noticed and problems on the forum that would indicate a serious hardware problem, so most issues that may arise should be able to be sorted with a firmware update which shouldnt be an issue...
I realise that you wont get a proper Canon warranty with a grey import but the suppliers I have been looking at all offer a 3 year warranty, with the first year of that being done at a Canon service centre...
Is there any reason not to take a chance ? I have owned Canon cameras and lenses since the early 80s and have never yet had to send any equipment in for repair...
Peoples thoughts on this would be interesting...

Don the big grey comes in the uk from what I've heard are good they will swop any flauty cameras and 3 year warranty that can be moved on and at about 700 cheaper are worth a good look

I was looking at Panamoz and Richmond cameras...Both have excellent reviews and Richmond cameras do free next day delivery which is a bonus..Will check out the big grey...Thanks.

Don I meant to say the big grey companies like Panamoz and others but on the tablet it has a mind of its own

welcome to two years ago, sony goes and does one further, nevermind the face detection, sony can do that with any canon lens, but with native lens, it'll focus on the eyeball.

You can also register faces so in a crowd, the face detection picks out your kids first.

What if that crowd is a soccer game that your kids are paying in and they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off?

Did anyone notice the mirror lockup icon missing from the top lcd? Or the rear lcd? Am I missing a setting somewhere?

I think I already know the answer to this, but the owner's manual doesn't specify... regarding the in-camera processing features, namely the items in the Lens Aberration Correction menu (peripheral illum, distortion, DLO, etc): do these get applied to the RAW images IN CAMERA? Namely, DLO... so when I transfer the RAW images to LR, are these corrections baked into the file, or do I need to use DPP? Same thing if I transfer them to my phone, are the DLO corrections included?

Little tidbit: DLO is disabled when you shoot in Dual Pixel Raw, and you can't apply it in DPP after the fact either.

my kids dont do soccer, so I cant answer that direct question. They do dance, which I find extremely tame.

I would have left the foreground black. Or better yet take a second exposure of the foreground and do a layer in PS.

I was out testing the capabilities of the camera, but do I agree, just posting to show 2 examples. I actually have one where someone else actually lit up the foreground, complete accident I caught it, but it looks better.

Why ISO 25,000? Surely that will produce a much more noisy image..

just testing it, I'm coming from a 5d II, wanted to see how much I could push the ISO with this camera compared to the 5D II

Im still looking for opinions on low light , high ISO noise. I've heard one vote for 1/2 a stop better (talley) than 5d3. Anyone else? Please don't direct me to comparison sites. I'm looking for the opinions of folks actually using the camera.

I'm getting the feeling that the 5d4 increased low ISO DR and has crazy good af but maybe didn't improve high ISO noise all that much.

I'm not the 'testing' kind of guy. But if you are looking for an opinion, I'll give you mine. There is not a big measurable difference. 6400iso has grain, pretty much like it did on the 5D3 - probably a bit better. A half stop? Sure. But, the quality of the grain and the higher detail is a pretty noticeable change. I hardly ever used noise reduction on images captured up to 3200iso using the 5D3. Although the 5D4 could have the same grain at 6400 (like I mentioned, I don't test to know) the quality feels that much better and I'll happily use 6400iso, like I happily used 3200iso in the past. For the first time, I may be tempted to go even higher, too. Time will tell.

I was using XP 64 bit for my workstation LONG before "Vista" came out and wrecked everything!
Happily used 8GB of RAM. (although Adobe took it's sweet time making a 64 bit version of PS!, had to do a hack/workaround to be able to use all that ram in the app I needed it! Silly Adobe, always so late to the party)
