Pretty cool! Don't see this photographed often. They have an interesting flight pattern where they thrust and float.

yes- they are fast and erratic but if you watch them for a while you can sometimes put yourself into their pattern. I snap a lot to get a few.

You do realize I have to hate you a bit right now, right Bob? :D I know where these guys live around me and STILL can't even catch 'em out on a tree trunk, much less IF. Great shots even if they are hard crops.

thanks Eric- they were impossible for me at first but I found a spot loaded with them and sometimes they cooperate. seem to fly best around 8am

I recently had a chance to photograph a couple of these guys, which is not that common in our neck-o-the-woods. They are like low flying missiles.
