600ex-rt Wireless

Hey so I'm having trouble figuring out what the wireless radio settings should be for my application. Basically for events I want my on camera flash to be in ettl to use it as bounce flash and a light on a stand to be in M and be able to control it with the on camera 600. I can do it optically with my 600 + 580 but cant control it like a think I could with 2 600s.

A) It is possible with the in Camera menu, but that depends on what body you have?

B) If you have a 600 on your camera, you should be able to go in to the flash menu, setting
one flash to ETTL, and the other on Manual.

Ok so the way I tried. On camera put the flash into radio master then tried to go to group and figured the on camera flash is A so but A in ettl then put B into M. Put the other flash into B radio slave. Then when I fire the flash it changes to master [All] in sted of group.

D. What your seeing is unfortunately the way it works on Pre-2012 cameras. Your 5D Mark II falls into that category. You do not have access to GROUP Mode. Group Mode allows you to have for example one flash in E-TTL and another in Manual like you described above. Yes it looks like it will work only to have all flashes shoot in E-TTL. Group Mode is one of the nicest features available.
I first bought the 600 EX-RT and ST-E3 RT Trasmitter when first introduced in the Spring of 2012. Unfortunately at that time I was shooting with a pair of 7D's. Yup......No Group Mode. Christmas of 2013 Group Mode became available with the 5D Mark III.

I have a 5D MK II and a 5D MK III, and there are more than a few reasons why the
5 D MK III get a lot more use.

No need to go optical.
Go either in Manual or E-TTL in Radio Mode. E-TTL in Ratios for example.
Much better coverage and do not need line of sight
Although you have a Pre-2012 camera (5D Mark II) you can do High Speed Sync and shoot at camera sync speed of 1/200......Eventhough the Canon Manual says otherwise. Page 51.
