Heartbreaking. On one hand I feel an overwhelming joy every time I see the happiness and response our daughter brings to these message boards... but on the other the picture you posted hurts deep knowing there are children out there not as fortunate as my own. Such a weird feeling to have your own family used in such a comparison. Even more so knowing the other photo comes from a member of these boards who helped sway us to purchase the 135mm with the quality of their work.

Children will always tug at our heartstrings. However, I have lived in poverty-stricken areas of the world and the one thing I always noted is that children do not often realize their situation. As photographers we can make them appear happy or sad based on when and where we trip the shutter.
The exception to this is in areas of famine, where the condition of both children and adults leave no doubt that life can be very cruel.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Take a small amount of solace from the fact that you possess the moral fiber for that fact to have an effect on your conscience.

Simon, how are you liking the YN685's? I want to sell my 430ex II's replace with them those, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

They perform really well, there's never any "issues" getting them to do what you want them to do, especially with the 622-TX controller. The build quality is kinda crappy, but for the price I'd rather have an army of Yongnuos than a couple of Canons.

She obviously has many advantages in life, having parents with a conscience would be at the top of the list for me, not anything material.
