Really hasty street shots...just wanted to grab something for the weekly thread. These are of my hometown West Point, GA. Very little activity on the streets, even for a Saturday night. Preferably I would have taken the 30 minute drive south to Columbus, GA, which is a larger city with very good street activity downtown. The first shot is just outside of Johnny's Pizza where we had dinner this evening.

During our trip visiting family, my sister-in-law asked if I could take some additional shots of her home for her VRBO listing. She rents out the home for football games. I obliged although the lighting was not ideal. All images shot with the Batis 18. I used the opportunity to gain more experience both in the field and in post.

Very high dynamic range in this room with bright light from the windows. I used a technique I learned from Jimmy McIntyre which involves masking in the underexposed shot after pulling up the exposure, shadows, and blacks while decreasing the highlights and whites of the underexposed shot. You can use Adobe Camera Raw in PS for that step and then mask in the layer in PS. This leaves a seamless blend and works well. The outside scene may need a bit more brightness so it looks more real vs a painting.

This room had light diffusion panels so there was no point in trying to blend in underexposed images for the windows.

Were these both shot using your Canon 35 f1.4 lens David? Love the tonal range on both shots.

Thanks! Good guess: you got the focal length right. They were captured with the Zeiss Distagon T* 1.4/35mm ZE (Canon-mount).

David, how does the ZE compare to the 35 f1.4 ZM which has received rave reviews on FM?

I haven't tried the ZM, but I've been tempted to switch to it as I think it's sharper. Having AF via the adapter would be awesome. The ZM seems to be have the sharpness of the 35L II with the pleasing rendering of the Distagon ZE.

Excellent. The ZM is on my wish list which is ever growing. Thanks for the information. Very nice tones on the black and white street shots.

Shooting a paid birthday party today. Plan is 24-70GM on A7RII and the 85GM will be on the A6000 to capture some candid shots. Wish me goodluck.

Also setting up a booth with my Flashpoint strobe with my 40" beauty dish.

It certainly doesnt look anything liek that where I live unfortunately, but the western isles area and also the north west of the mainland gets this tropical looking (baltic !!) water

I just reworked a picture i shot a few weeks ago. Tried stitching the shots in LR earlier and gave up because the transitions were not seamless. Turned out i havent shot enough frames to make it but i tried again in photoshop and after 4 hours of work im quite happy with the result.

The shots turned into a 100mpx panorama of my hometown, Zurich.
