Fantastic flash work.
Question--say you had been in multi-shot mode and he took off, how many flashes would you have gotten? I too use 580EXii and unless I'm in low power and HSS recycle time wouldn't let
me get but one shot off. I guess it depends on exposure comp too? I'm king noob in flash work.
Beautiful hawk though and well captured.

Frankly, I wouldn't trust more than two shots at most with the flash in continuous mode. I'm not sure if there's any way of checking the flash power in the exif data, but if I had to guess I would think the flash was firing between 1/32 and 1/16 power for this lighting with my exposure comp. It was in the shadows, but not particularly dim, so the flash wasn't being pushed too far - I got exactly two shots off in this set up before the flash cut out.

I'm definitely a noob when it comes to flash as well. Whenever I head out for a hike, I typically take my 580II with a pair of remote triggers in case I get a rare opportunity to play around with a subject (e.g. this hawk) to figure out what works and what doesn't. This guy was very patient, so I was able to mount the 580II directly to the hot shoe and check out different exposure settings before I lost him after a take-off over my head.

Justin thanks. I guess the only way for me to improve flash is to keep trying. Well this next shot didn't need any thank God

Hell yes it's cold. Mid-40's here I woke up sleeping under down an almost shivering!

Hi Guys,

I finally pick up my 5Dsr last weekend and I had a bit of play with her,my photo's turn out ok sp for my first time using the 5Dsr and that the conditions were pretty hard with the light and I was panning with the camera too
Again they are a not the best here , but its a start . Enjoy Matt

Haha! Yep, no mowing! But in a couple of months you'd be able to drive over it.

Nice family of (black) hero's, they are the best! Mine is sleeping in my chair, as always. I used to go hunting as well with her but due to age (mine) not anymore.
