Canon EF-S 10-22mm OR Rokinon 14mm f/2.8

I need a really wide angle lens for photographing interiors. It's best if I get most of the furniture in one room in the shot.

Given my budget, I can get either the Canon EF-S 10-22 or the Rokinon 14mm.


Which would you suggest?
Image quality is very important to me. I'd say I'm experienced hobbyist, mostly in travel and portraits. I always wanted a lens with the ability to go wide open as well as speed of focusing, but I'm not sure either applies here since furniture is stationary. However, I *might* use it outside of just interiors, so I'd love to hear the good, bad and the ugly.

As I don't see any EFs camera, such as a Rebel or xxD in your signature, you probably cannot use the 10-22EFs without modification. That leaves the Rokinon.

You can get a 17-40 for about the price of a 10-22. Also you could remove the back baffle of the ef-s 10-18 and use it as wide as 14mm:

i wouldn't do that with the 10-18mm...since its a plastic mount he'd have to physically cut down the lens...with a metal mount like the 10-22 he can just pop it off

but i'd look at the 17-40mm...unless you really need that extra 3mm on the wide end...the distortion from the 14mm is also not said to be the best

Close, but no banana. There is a HUGE difference between 14mm and 17mm. I have a 17-40. It is not near wide enough, sometimes.

OP, if you are chasing wide, take a serious look at the Rokinon 12mm FE. It is much wider than the Rokinon 14, and makes the 17-40 look like a tele lens. If you are after DOF, it is hard to beat the 12mm FE. The Canon 11-24 is wider, barely, and 10 times the cost.

i never said there wasn't a difference...he's shooting interiors so it's either real estate, design, or construction...not all of those necessary call for the widest lens you can possibly use...and with needing to keep lines straight it seems like the moustache distortion of the 14mm could be an issue...a 12mm fish eye for interiors seems like a disaster

Close? Well, you were closer than I was. Bad read on my part. Of course you are correct about interiors. In my defense, I hadn't had my morning beer, yet.

I cannot speak for the Rokinon 12mm fisheye, but my Rokinon 8mm fisheye de-fishes nicely in post-processing.

Popping the back off the ef-s 10-22 is easy but that exposes the internals, and then you have vignetting issue on a full frame. I've done this to mine, and I bought a different back cover to protect the internals. There's a good thread on this topic from a few years ago.

Are you doing this as a business, is it going to be a regular job and are you getting well paid for it?
If it is then go for broke and get the 17mm or 24mm TS-E,you will get very wide by shifting and will not get converging verticals
