Any places you recommend in or near elkhart?

I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather.
Not screaming, terrified, like his passengers.

I'm sitting in a parking lot waiting for my daughter when this train suddenly emerges out of the trees and stops right in front of me...

A rare non-NS engine in the area! Not that rare I guess, I've seen a few Union Pacific and a couple BNSF passing through on the NS mainline. But most of the time I just get yet another NS shot.

You can use google maps in satellite view and follow the tracks till you find something of intrest. Thats how i found the bridge in laport. Other than the huge rail yard in elkhart, i didnt find anything interesting out your way

It is too bad there is no place around the rail yard to get any pictures of that!

and a pic that brings a tear to my eye. My son wanted to use my "big camera" as he calls it. So I said if he could hold it, he can take pics. Next thing i know he's snapping away. He's getting better. I let him use my xt with kit lens now as his camera.

This is the rail yard nearby, as seen from the High Line, an old elevated subway track converted to a park.

The High Line (external link) was a freight railroad line that was last used by Conrail in 1980. It was never a subway line.
