I had my Canon 500 MKII lens attached to my 1D4 plus a 1.4x converter when one leg on my tripod just started to collapse, I raced ( well as fast as a 61 yr old can race) across to grab it, slipped on my tiled kitchen floor resulting in hurting my elbow, my right ankle and a swollen right 'unmentionable' round object as this is where the camera hit me, but happy to say no damage to any of my kit- only to me!! I have now binned the tripod and am sourcing a new one- a Gitzo GT4542LS looks favourite. I am now laid up for a couple of weeks:-(.

Ah man! Hope you feel better soon. Glad the gear didn't get damaged.

Yes you are right I am a lemon, but the most hurtful thing about this painful episode is that my wife has not stopped laughing.:-(

My son and I were almost done birding at Broughton Beach along the Columbia River in Portland this morning when he excitedly pointed his binoculars at a little white guy hopping around on the sand by the water, screaming "snow bunting, snow bunting!" What's not to like about 12 year old birders? :)

Anyway, here are some shots of the bird, a lifer for both of us. It is a relatively rare visitor to our area, and apparently, this is the first sighting of a snow bunting in our county since 2014.

Hope you like the shots - 7D2 + 500/4 II.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Sam, will the 7D2 + the canon 500/4 II auto focus with a 1.4x converter fitted?

Great shot, Charles! Is this in a national park? How close can you get to the animals?

Most definitely! Adding a 1.4X will reduce your f stop to 5.6, and you can still use all the points for focusing. If you add a 2X, then you can only use the center point. I have never tried a 2X, but I own a 1.4X III, and see no loss of IQ.
