I agree, she is very pretty and these do look a bit overdone. But there is something amiss here it seems. Is she wearing some kind of contact? Her irises look unusually large.

I don't think it's the size, it's the lack of catchlights and excessive saturation. The pic of Zeus' directly above that post has a much larger iris but normal catch lights and less processing.

Your crop might change the effective focal lens, but it won't change the lens intrinsic characteristics. Your 35mm is still a wide angle and will render the image as a wide angle would. Besides, 48mm, even though it's just only 2mm away from a normal lens is still not suitable for close ups like that one, not even a normal lens is; and if the subject already has some large facial features, well... the results won't be pleasing.

The focal length of a lens is the physical property of a lens and it never changes irrespective of the camera sensor. [..] always keep in mind that the smaller sensor is not magically transforming your lens into a longer lens – it is just cropping a lot of the image

Except that the distortion that we see (enlarging the nose) is perspective distortion. Perspective is based on the distance to the subject, not lens length.
