A few from studio dance session

I was contracted to photograph companies of dancers at a studio and did a setup for those who wanted "action" shots. We had 11 dancers and I used a new seamless paper, Thunder Grey by Savage. I have to say it's my new favourite. No idea why almost everyone decided to wear black. LOL.

Yes that's Lily. Absolutely gorgeous and with the most amazing hair as well.

Think I'd prefer a 2nd light in the first, but the photos are all pleasant to view.

If the paper was under-foot, any difficulties with slippage?

Thanks. I'd prefer light on the first one as well but it was moving a bit fast and these were all just quick sessions. Not a problem with paper at all. Just tape it down and it's fine. The under floor is not very slippery which helps.

These are great, the dancers will certainly love them. I think some of them could do with a bit more separation from the background. I guess that could have been resolved by them wearing some colour but you weren't to know they'd all wear black.

Thanks and they do love them. They've been spamming social media with them which is nice. I agree with the separation. It was my first time using such a dark background and I'll have to rethink my lighting but I do love it.

Absolutely stunning! I love dance photography (my wife is a dancer), and these are really inspirational!

I think number 1 & 2 are the best and I'd actually love to see a B&W conversion of them, I think it would be very powerful.

What lights did you use? Maybe a bigger modifier would have helped keep the light even as they moved? I am curious as I have wanted to try a shoot like this for a while now.

In any case nice work especially for the first try at this type of shoot.

In reviewing this thread, I realized that the only two photos where I like the lighting are the first and last images.

For example, the 4th image would take on a whole new look if she was lit from the other side, with the area behind her falling off into the shadows.

I really like the first one.
