Guys, I wanna get a strobe. Want to try something else besides speedlites. More power...and its christmas ideas, so minus well. Whats a good recommendation for a budget under $300, ideally $200 or so.?
Is the Ad-360 a speedlight on steroids? Doesnt seem like a true strobe. What else are some options? Think I also want to pair it with a Fotodiox EZ-Pro Octagon Softbox 48'
What does "a true strobe" mean to you? Studio lights will usually add a modeling lamp, which the 360 doesn't have, but will require a plug. There are bigger battery powered options which have a modeling lamp, but they tend to be so weak that they are rarely useful outside of a darkened room.
Do you need the ability to go on location? Do you need the ability to go without access to wall plugs? If so, the AD360 is pretty hard to beat without adding significant cost and usually significant weight as well. The shape of the flash tube gives significant advantage over anything near the price and over many significantly more expensive units. It competes well against 400WS units because of this.
As you have discovered, the 360 costs a bit more than $300, but it is probably worth the investment.
