Guys, I wanna get a strobe. Want to try something else besides speedlites. More power...and its christmas ideas, so minus well. Whats a good recommendation for a budget under $300, ideally $200 or so.?

Is the Ad-360 a speedlight on steroids? Doesnt seem like a true strobe. What else are some options? Think I also want to pair it with a Fotodiox EZ-Pro Octagon Softbox 48'

The AD-360 and the EZ-Pro 48 would be an outstanding choice. I've got 7 EZ-Pro's including the 48. I've not purchased a AD_360 (I would be going with Chetah) because I've already got enough portable lighting.

Just do it.

So is this something like what I'd want: https://www.amazon.com …907&sr=8-1&keywords=AD360 (external link)

If so, it comes with triggers although they seem bulky. Right now I'm using Yognuo triggers, but they only support manual mode. I really wanna have something that supports ETTL.

Thanks in advance

This is outstanding. You take some really impressive photos overall, but this one - to me - stands out. Nice work.

What does "a true strobe" mean to you? Studio lights will usually add a modeling lamp, which the 360 doesn't have, but will require a plug. There are bigger battery powered options which have a modeling lamp, but they tend to be so weak that they are rarely useful outside of a darkened room.

Do you need the ability to go on location? Do you need the ability to go without access to wall plugs? If so, the AD360 is pretty hard to beat without adding significant cost and usually significant weight as well. The shape of the flash tube gives significant advantage over anything near the price and over many significantly more expensive units. It competes well against 400WS units because of this.

As you have discovered, the 360 costs a bit more than $300, but it is probably worth the investment.

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).

I just bought this flash, but I went with Adorama's version called the Streaklight for the support. I'd advise you to do the same. The version you have pulled up did not have TTL I believe. But I could be wrong.

This baby was on sale for $400 this morning.

I've not used mine but if you look around, you'll see it work in most any situation a full strobe is needed in, unless you are doing direct battle with the sun.

Good luck

Thats cool, thanks guys. Yes on location shoots would be best so portability is key. Can you use those bare and still have it be softer light than a speedlight? It looks like it comes with some sort of cover or diffuser so I was curious. Plus I dont necessarily have a speedring just yet so if I did get it, I wouldnt be able to pair it with my 24' cheetabox for example.

Additionally; is this what I would be after? https://www.amazon.com …1-1&keywords=godox+Ad-360 (external link)

It's nice. I would warm up your key light a bit so it looks more natural. Maybe a 1/8 cto gel?

NM, I see you asked about post, not the actual shoot. Only post related comment would be to try and bring up highlights in the hair, parts of it look dull and lifeless.

Post just looks a smidge too smooth.. if it is on a different layer I'd bring down the opacity a smidge.

could also warm the skin on another layer in post to balance the color.. but love that background, beautiful!
Beautiful gal too.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.
