pretty amazing fine detail mm
cheers

Takes me back to when Jake/CDS first reported in on this amazing lens. I just wish I'd paid attention
then instead of waiting so long.

^,^^
Graham, BigCol, awesome motorsports captures; something I've never seen (airshow either). I'd say a certain talent to get those shots, and
believe me there are many many times I'd like to shoot anything but birds but 99% of time it's all I've got :(

Love the prancing horse. What a profile!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I don't think this Lens cares what you point it at. But at times I wish it was a 70mm - 400mm

It's these kind of restrictions that will stimulate creativity. Beautiful result you've got there.

I once had a lens/body combo go bad on me in Yosemite, so I was left working with a tele-zoom only. Not too bad once you adapt to the situation.

Thanks guys - you are going to cost me a bunch of $$$$, I appreciate the motorsports shots, The longest lens I have now is a 70-200mm F4L with a 1.4 converter.
Two recent weekends at race tracks after a few years away from them have rekindled the desire for something with a little more reach. I've been extremely impressed with the detail I've seen in some of the great shots of birds that I've seen here but I'm a gearhead and just wanted some examples of cars at speed before I commit to a $2000 lens. I'm shooting with a 1Dx body and after a weekend at Laguna Seca for the Monterey Historics I was really wishing for some bigger glass at the corkscrew.

I've got a 70-400 but being a Sony I don't think it'd help you much :(

LOVE the cars!

For what it's worth my 1DX teams up very nicely with my 100-400 Mk2. It is not as good as my 300 F2.8 but it is a lot cheaper/lighter and more flexible. If you do your part the 100-400 Mk2 will not disappoint and I think it would be a lot better than your 70-200 F4 + extender for this sort of shooting.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Thanks Damian, I've had the lens for what feels like forever,.. since feb 2015 ... 646 days to be exact. its a game changer for the guy with $2600 bucks, I think I will always have one.

I don't think that it's the lens that is making your fox images shine . . . it's your ability to get close, and then capturing images that show real personality - an excellent mixture of composition and timing, I think.

Def. going to be interesting I think. A almost cross between a 5Dsr resolution wise and a 1DXii frame rate wise with the A7Rii's sensor. Only thing screwed from the
beginning is the card slots=old timey UHS-I when they could have gone with UHS-II and an endless buffer. Should know in a week if the B&H ship date holds true.
I know some of the videophiles are already upset the aperture is locked at 3.5 in AF video mode. I got no video dog in that fight though. Other thing is with my Minolta
400 APO only 79 focus points but that's more than the 1DXii has anyway; besides like most 'old timers' I use center point 99% of the time now anyway.
