I didn't stand still for the entire 25 seconds (thus the stars showing through me). The red light is from my headlamp as I walked toward the camera. This was a completely unplanned result - I hadn't even really looked at the photo until last night. http://www.flickr.com/photos/63710159@N07/

Heh, nice, I had a similar thing happen on what was my last Milky Way shot of the year: ![]() ![]() ![]() I was sitting on the edge of the cliff on this giant rock outcropping in Skull Valley, Utah, wind was pretty bad up there so I couldn't hear the shutter close, ended up getting skiddish and getting back up off the edge and walking back to the camera about 10 seconds to early. Right as I got close to the camera the shutter closed, I just hung my head and said "dammit". Didn't want to try again, lol.

Sapphire-Blue achieved with Tungsten White Balance. It's kind of sad ...but I returned to this spot to watch the sun set a few weeks ago - and a man took his life by jumping off the cliff in front of me while I was filming. It seems the height of the cliff (which is a couple of hundred feet high) has made it a popular lookout but it's also a popular suicide spot now. The local council tried to dynamite the cliff three times in recent years but were unsuccessful in destroying it. It's a popular location for picnics, whale-watching, fishing and scuba diving.
