I didn't stand still for the entire 25 seconds (thus the stars showing through me). The red light is from my headlamp as I walked toward the camera. Heh, nice, I had a similar thing happen on what was my last Milky Way shot of the year:  Alone Atop Lone Rock by Eric, on FlickrI was sitting on the edge of the cliff on this giant rock outcropping in Skull Valley, Utah, wind was pretty bad up there so I couldn't hear the shutter close, ended up getting skiddish and getting back up off the edge and walking back to the camera about 10 seconds to early. Right as I got close to the camera the shutter closed, I just hung my head and said "dammit". Didn't want to try again, lol.

It's kind of sad ...but I returned to this spot to watch the sun set a few weeks ago - and a man took his life by jumping off the cliff in front of me while I was filming. It seems the height of the cliff (which is a couple of hundred feet high) has made it a popular lookout but it's also a popular suicide spot now. The local council tried to dynamite the cliff three times in recent years but were unsuccessful in destroying it. It's a popular location for picnics, whale-watching, fishing and scuba diving.
