Golden-headed Cisticola. These tiny birds live in long grass. Hard to get close.

Ok enough is enough.
Can you guys/gals recommend a book for Santa to bring me on Bird ID.
If I'm going to keep shooting them might as well start learning what they are.
Seems I saw someone using an app on his phone....anyone here use one? I'm
in the Droid camp for apps.

Merlin ID by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology is pretty good. Its free and has some limits, but it has most of what people see. I wish I hadnt given all my field guides out earlier this year or I would send one to you. My favorite guide is the National Geographic Birds of North America. They are on like revision 10 now and it can be had at most book stores in the bargin books for under $10.

Sibley. Guide to Birds. first edition. none better. I have no use for apps, love books. Found this guy in my copy, with help from Will in Tejas. Gulls are not easy for me. National Geographic books are also very fine.

I would agree with the Sibley, and many prefer the first edition. I am not a fan of bird apps on my phone, because I never actually spend time trying to ID birds in the field.

Sony RX10 IV, Canon 7D2, Canon 77D, assorted Canon lenses

"The Stokes Field Guide to the Birds of North America" plus it comes with a bonus CD of songs and sounds of 150 common birds.
Very easy to use and well laid out.
