Taken in my garden (yard) in the UK near Portsmouth on the South Coast. The goldfinches come regularly, but this little bird joined them at times. Other times it was alone, I would love to know what it is.

Very difficult to be sure, since the two most important features, the wing length and the legs, are hidden.
