Wondering what photo to use for my Christmas cards, and remembered this shot of an eagle owl in a snow storm. Thought it might do, even if it isn't particularly christmassy.

It is a wonderful winter capture-
Merry Christmas in red lettering would make it the perfect personalized Christmas card :-)

Merry Christmas!

Hmmm. Hadn't thought of red lettering. I've used:-( black now.

Would have been better.

Sorry, but I disagree.
Although it's a good image, it's not cheerful or warm-hearted. The owl has a menacing look.
Nothing in it reminds me of Christmas, except perhaps for the snow.

Try again.

.

I have to agree with Frank............good photo, poor choice for a Christmas card. Why? Because it is dark and gloomy - and the owl looks either mean or unhappy, or both - exactly the opposite of what a Christmas card should be.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

It appeals to some. For some of us, this is the most miserable time of the year. I can relate to the owl.

Well I haven't sent any yet. I did lighten the print and made it seem brighter. To be totally honest, I does reflect the way I now feel about Christmas. It isn't my favorite time of year, too money-grabbing for me really. And then there's the pressure to visit the children and their families. And that often doesn't go too well when the grandchildren get over tired.

Give me Spring; I would happily celebrate that.

I think that will be an improvement.

I didn't think that the purpose of sending Christmas cards was to express the way we feel. Rather I thought that it was supposed to be a way to spread cheer and happiness, whether we feel that way ourselves or not. Generally speaking, cards and gifts are supposed to be about uplifting the recipient, not about expressing ourselves.

It aint about us - it's about others.

Would people think this owl is better for Xmas?

We had 8" of snow dumped on us yesterday, with more to come every day this week. I'm pretty sure that my expression matched the owl this AM. ; )

Rebecca, your bird scenes illustrate a winter theme. Aside from that, they don't seem particularly Christmasy to me. A cardinal with red berries would come closer but would still need a clever caption to tie the picture to the humans' holiday.

I agree. But pretty robins in snow are everywhere here in the U.K. I was just trying something different. I used an owl photo
two years ago. But that was seasonal with red writing and presents. I thought this year could be different.
Perhaps I'm being too different. Maybe I will try again with more Xmas cheer.
