I sold my Canon 16-35 f4L IS a few months ago, just on time to get a decent price.
I planned to buy the Venus optics 12 2.8, for having wider & faster, but after the kickstart stuff it doesn't seem to launch :(
And the launch price is way too high for a manual focus lens :(

My friend has the Samyang 14 2.8 with moustache distortion, but the price is fair for a manual lens.

I saw Samyang is going to bring out a 14 2.4 premium, don't know if there is a launch price known yet.

What do you think about that Irix 15 2.4, any good, or any other fast wide alternative wide-angles recommended ?

Out of curiosity, why do you need the extra stop of speed on something this ultrawide?

Very best,

12mm and 14mm lenses are not manual focus lenses. They are no-focus lenses. Just to prove a point, I my Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 for several hours last (2015) summer, without touching the focus. If you need AF on a lens this wide, you are not using it properly.

Well f2.8 is for everything handy, I work mostly in (very) dark conditions, not always on tripod.
Like partyshoots in a dark club, urban shoots in dark buildings (this on tripod, but f2.8 focuses faster) and I want to test startrails and f2.8 is also recommended.

I like to have wider than my previous 16-35 f4L IS for architecture also after seeing this :-D

Wider & faster is always interesting for different types of photography.

f2.8 won't focus any faster if you're doing it manually...star trails don't really need a fast lens, because you are keeping the shutter open longer intentionally to get the trail...

i've never heard anything about this 15mm you're asking about...when will the 12mm ship?

I visited the Irix booth on Photokina, their lenses look good. But we need to see first tests and user exoerience. And we need to wait a year and so some search to see how the build quality is.
Samyang did not have their premium 85mm/1.2 ready back then.
Aside form the crazy distortion the mechanical build quality / quality control is much more my concern with their lenses. So an improvement there would be more interessting for me.

With a faster lens you get more stars which many photographers like much.

I can sure manual focus faster with a faster lens in low light because I can see what I am focusing better :)

C&C always welcomed...
On my images, of course, and on my words as well--as long as it's constructive :).

What about a Sigma 20/1.4 ?
If you want wider, then the Zeiss ZE 15/2.8 is arguably the best, but you get what you pay for.
